Honduras Geology (updated
5/15/98)
DGMH Director Ricardo Perdomo offers the services of DGMH to researchers, universities, and institutions interested in geoscience research, exploration, and activities in Honduras.
Economic Geology - JAPEX Geoscience Institute, Inc. (JGI) working through the Japanese Technical Mission to Honduras is indexing and cataloging the entire DGMH holdings related to hydrocarbon potential for Honduras. The JGI goal is to synthesize geological, drill well and geophysical data for a basin analysis to identify potential opportunity for hydrocarbon exploration. The analysis will be packaged and sold to companies interested in petroleum exploration, similar to the packages available in Nicaragua. Visit the JAPEX homepage, it's in Japanese, of course.
In association with the Japanese Technical Mission, the Dirección General de Minas e Hidrocarburos has finished the second stage of drilling (1,500 meters) this past November of a small lead-zinc play in San Antonio de Oriente. The first stage drill 4,000 meters. Samples are currently being analyzed and a final report is expected in the next few months. The DGMH contact for this project is Pedro Mejia: (504) 32-7848 fax/phone. Environmental Geology - The Japanese Technical Mission in Honduras in association with the Dirección General de Minas e Hidrocarburos is beginning a national program aimed at inventorying and dealing with active and inactive mine contamination. The program "Preservación de Ambiental y Control de Contaminación en Industria Mineral" will begin when Miriam Bueso of DGMH returns from Japan in March. Miriam Bueso can be reached at (504) 32-7848 fax/phone when she returns. Please note that Honduras has recently switched to seven (7) digit phone numbers. A conversion table can be found at http://www.7digitos.hn/
