Course description: Course is an overview of
Plate tectonics. We will cover the basics of what happens at
plate margins, the process-response feedbacks that occur and how these
processes result in the rocks, structures and landscapes.
Assessment: Two in-class exams (100 pts each) and one
final exam (100 pts). There will be seven discussions sessions
with short quizzes (10 pt each) based on readings (including non-text)
and four problem sets (15 pts each). There are 430 possible
points in the class. I anticipate lecturing Mondays and
Wednesdays with Fridays being discussion/problem set days.

Attendance: Students are expected to attend classes.
How to do well in this
class: Get as many point as possible.
1) read material - before
class
2) come to class - pay
attention, take notes, ask questions if something is not clear.
3) Study - re-read
materials and notes before quizzes and exams.
4) Show up and take the
quizzes and exams. hint: the quizzes are "open book",
however, you do not have time to look through material during
quiz.
5) Be curious
Other: Respect
others. Please do not disrupt their learning. Remember to turn
off cell phones. If you must leave during class, do so quietly.
