For Monday Oct. 8.  Rock and Mineral Quiz - You will need to be able to ID samples of the rocks and minerals we have gone over in class and that you have in your lab kit.  This is closed book.  I will be asking for you to tell me what each sample it.

The lab will be on topographic maps.  Read what is labeled Lab 1 Topographic Maps (pages 4-9) before class.  This is in your lab kit.  We'll go over some map basics and get you started on new Lab.

Turn in previous lab.

For Monday Oct 1 Lab : Read over labs 3, 4 and 6 (pages 44-63 covering igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks).  We will work on selection of questions from lab handouts during lab (this is what you will turn in) and look at selection of rocks.  The quiz will be at end of the lab and be on what we go over in lab.  

 

LAB Kit should be obtained from bookstore.  Please bring with you to  next lab.

Course description:  Classification of minerals and rocks; reading and interpreting topographic and geologic maps; studies of selected problems in plate tectonic, structural geology, groundwater and mass movement. One required field trip.

Field Trip: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm  Saturday Nov 3, Knights Ferry

Please Obtain Lab Kit From CSU-Stan. Bookstore.  We will use this throughout semester beginning with LAB 2 on September 17.  Please read material for lab 2 before coming to class.
