Stop 10 -

Stop 10 - Base of El Capitan. Dr. Kimyai points out a diorite intrusion in the older granite.

Stop 10 - From here the dark rock area known as the Map of America can be seen in theside of El Capitan. It's the area just to the left of the tall trees in the center of the picture.

Stop 10 - More of El Capitan.

Stop 10 - From this meadow many visitors watched as climbers ascend El Capitan.

And now we head home. On our return trip we use Hwy. 140 heading west. It was recently closed due to a massive rock slide. The road is torn up out into the town of El Portal which is outside of the park. Hwy, 140 takes us through the towns of Mariposa heading west and into Merced where we turn north on Hwy, 99 to return to Turlock.
