Stop 9 - At this stop we see the effects of fractures and weathering that cause the rock to break as water enters the rock. The ruble at the base is called Talus. The sparking flakes in the granite is mica. Taft granite is seen here as the very light colored rock.
Stop 9 - The pink granite contains feldspar, plagioclase. The very dark granite contains biotite and is called diorite. There is evidence of late magmatic crystallization.
Stop 9 - A vein in the cliff contains feldspar. This large boulder is an example of Taft Granite.
Stop 10 - Looking across
the valley from El Capitan. Stop 10 - Pointing to climbers on the face of El Capitan.
